My favorite things

Today, a conversation cropped up regarding favorite toys after our executive editor made a noise that sounded much like the Fisher Price Little People Barnyard cow noise.

It made me feel nostalgic for some of my favorite toys that I threw out and now regret.

First, The Woodseys.

I played with the Woodseys for hours on end. I loved Mama, Papa and Milkweed. They had a log cabin house with a carrying handle.

The critters were puppets that squeaked. They came with a book, furniture and Mama had a broom -- everything a little girl could ask for, really.

Second, Puppy Puddles -- by far, my all-time favorite toy.

I can't find a picture anywhere. That's how rare this gem is.

Here's description from an online index of 80s toys: "It was a hard heavy plastic dog, when you squeezed it's rubber collar it urinated."

That about sums it up. Expect you could also make it drink water and it came with its own tray and newspapers to pee on. Actually, to get it to pee, you had to make Puppy Puddles sit on a spike.

I loved that dog.

Stupid Weekend

Two things happened this weekend that really caught me off guard and generally pissed me off.

1. Free Comic Book Day. I went with the Sorta Runner and found that someone else is writing my bull terrier comic. It's called "Bluff" and it sucks. But, the dog has a striking resemblance to my dog, Sweetpea. I couldn't stop looking at it. I shook my head a lot. As some of you have read, I made Joey a crude copy of my own bull terrier comic called, "The Pea." I had plans of doing it as an online strip. If I had launched ReadthePea, I would be suing.

2. "What Not to Wear." Every Sunday, I get sucked into the "What Not to Wear" marathon on The Learning Channel. This week, they threw out one of my favorite summer skirts. I don't know what to write about it. I just know I'm mad and embarrassed and feel as though I have no fashion sense. If someone gave me $5000 to spend on clothes, shoes and accessories, I'd be able to afford nicer summer skirts.

Sigh.

Here you go, Bahorich

In an effort to appease the needs of the Bloghorich, I am squeezing in the blog today.

Some of you already know that, once again, I'm pending a promotion. It's my second in a year and my third raise. Starting after earnings season (mid-May for you non-financial types), I'll become the new media and communications editor, leaving the REIT world behind. The promotion means more responsibility, more hours, overseeing three reporters, etc. Plus, I'll be starting it from ground up. So, that's kinda exciting.

If you remember how I threw myself into recreating Daybreak, you'll know that I will soon immerse myself in everything media and communications allowing little else in my life until it gets up and running. The newsletter launches in September; I'll pass along the first issue.

Also, the twins (Marva & Bert, washer and dryer, respectively) are doing great. I believe J. Gor did approximately 10 loads of laundry in their first week at the house, topping my 6 loads. They're quiet, efficient and down right precious. Quite frankly, I'm not sure how we lived without them.

That's it for now. I'll be back on the blog soon, Bahorich.
